Nick Mucha
Sarah Lasser
Issue date: 1/25/10 Section: News
Name: Nick Mucha
Major: Organizational Leadership and Supervision (OLS) and Human Resources
Year: Senior
Advice: "As soon as you can, get involved with things that are in relation to your major."
Have you seen this smiling face around campus? The majority of you are probably nodding your head or mentally answering the question with an affirmative. Nick Mucha, warmly nicknamed Smiley by his friends and classmates, spends a lot of time on campus. He chose PNC for the same reason many students decide to attend: the location and the ideal student to instructor ratio. However, as a senior looking back, Nick claims that the best perk PNC has to offer is the amicable and helpful nature of both the faculty and the student body. The one thing he would like to see advancement in is the low student involvement that seems to plague the campus today. Serving as the Secretary in the Student Government, he is currently striving to find a way to increase the number of students attending campus activities and events.
Nick has been spending many hours at a desk in the Office of Career Development in the basement of the LSF building as a workstudy. He posts job opportunities and even lends a hand with one-on-one resume making and interview preparations. For the spring semester this year, Nick had petitioned the chair of the Communications department, Dr. Smithson, to create an internship out of his current position. Having converted it to a Communications 490 internship, Nick is presently putting together presentations that he will then give to students as a guest speaker in various classrooms later this year. Topics include "How To Choose A Major" and "How To Do Social Networking."
When asked where one may find him after graduation, Nick just smiles and says he is keeping his options open. He admits he will be looking into various avenues to find his own personal niche in this world. One such avenue involves working with America's youth. The young man expresses interest in future involvement with the Youth For Christ organization. As a volunteer there now, Nick aides in activities designed to help middle-schoolers associate relevant social issues with Christian biblical teachings. "God is a big part of my life," admits the Campus Christian Bible Study club member.
