Apathy Rampant at PNC

I have seen lack of participation on the PNC campus throughout the year, so of course I supported Lyndsie's "Apathy" continuation. However, when I was recently covering the Jason LeVasseur event on April 15th, I decided I had had enough and needed to write an editorial myself.

I arrived at the Jason LeVasseur performance thirty minutes after the show had started because I had been filming the Hyde Park event. I assumed since I was arriving well after the performance had begun, the event would have a great turnout. I was wrong. I set up my camera to film then went out to recruit people to stop in to see the show. Recruit people, yes, I just said that.

Lyndsie and I went around LSF trying to spread the word of the performance, even though there were flyers posted for nearly a month that the performer would be coming to the campus. Many of the students either did not give us the time of day or they were just off the bat rude. It is neither Lyndsie nor my job to beg students to come and support a performer that the campus brings in. I often hear talk of there is nothing fun to do on campus nor does PNC resemble anything close to a college campus. However, when we try to bring events to the campus, no one seems to care.

Aside from my work with 'The Voice' which often has me covering events and talking with students and faculty, I am a student representative for the Scholarship Committee as well as the Constitution Day Committee. I even signed on to be a Student Government rep. for the upcoming fall semester. Obviously the Scholarship Committee deals with the scholarships on campus. The Constitution Day Committee, however, is all about the activities coming for the fall semester. The committee is putting much work into the event to ensure that students will have an enjoyable time. I just hope all of our efforts are worth it because I would hate to invest my time into something that would again have a poor turnout.

I understand how busy people are. I understand that people have jobs, kids and lives outside of PNC. I have a job waiting tables which often has me coming home at one o'clock in the morning, but I still make it out to campus for my 8:30 a.m. class, stay until four in the afternoon and head out to work all over again. It is a demanding schedule; life is tough. However, I still find time to go to class, work and plan and/or cover events for PNC.

I don't know if the story was cut, but it's awfully well written as it is here.

Congratulations on a successful year at PNC. I suspect, for you, the best is yet to come. (Continued…)

Concerts in the middle of the day never really did work out. I checked out his music online and wasn't impressed. I had class anyways so it's not like I could have gone if I wanted to. (Continued…)
