CSU administrators launched this summer a plan to aggressively reduce the potential for mold build-up in the university's lone residence hall. The plan - in conjunction with previous efforts - comes as students and staff ready for a new year that many are hoping will be free from the odiferous presence of fungi and the adverse health effects that have plagued workers and students in the facility in the past.

Illinois legislators Ed Maloney and Monique Davis in discussions with The Cougar Chronicle Aug. 14 condemned remarks uttered last spring by the university's financial aid director that labeled CSU students as "ghetto."

The issue was resurrected earlier this month when administrator Beverly John deflected questions about the future of the university's athletic programs and voiced her objections to student media coverage of the financial aid director's past remarks.

The Board of Trustees appointed a new chancellor for UIC this past July.

UIC voted for Paula Allen-Meares to overtake the chancellor position. Allen-Meares will officially begin as chancellor of UIC on January 15, 2009.
